Last weekend an international beach handball tournament was played within the organization of Zagreb’s handball federation (ZRS) . 29 teams in 3 categories participated on this tournament.
In women competition there was 9 teams, from which 2 of them played on Masters, the weekend before and there was also a new team BHC Jamnica, first time on the beach handball court. After the games in groups Kontesa Nera, Chemo profili Zagreb, Detono Zagreb and BHC Dubrava qualified to the semifinals. After tensely played semifinal games, Kontesa Nera won against Dubrava and Detono Zagreb after shoot-out won against young team Chemo Profili Zagreb. In the game for the 3rd place Chemo profili Zagreb won against Dubrava.
In the finals were the teams that showed the most, Kontesa Nera led by Iva Livaić, member of the National team against team Detono Zagreb. First set was convincingly won by Kontesa Nera and the second was won by Detono Zagreb, also very convincingly. After 7th shoot-out the winner was Detono Zagreb and now they are very close to winning Croatian Championship, which is going to end next week in Čakovec.

Final game offered everything that this sport can offer, a lot of fun, attractions and tense match. At the end we were better in shoot-out and won, but it would also be fair if Kontesa Nera won the match. I Congratulate to all the participants in the finals, said Ivana Benko, Detono Zagreb player.

The best players were: Lena Gojavić (pivot-Chemo profili Zagreb), Ivana Benko (right wing-Detono Zagreb), Iva Livaić (left wing- Kontesa Nera), Iva Matušek (goalkeeper-Detono Zagreb), Sonja Kukić (specialist-Kontesa Nera), te Karla Lenard (defensive player- Detono Zagreb).
In men competition there were 16 teams, including the Russian team Ekaterinodar and Norwegian team Team Nor, which made Zagreb Open international tournament. The biggest surprise of the tournament was team BHC Čakovec which defeated BHC Sandstorm in shoot-out led by players Zvonimir Đikić and Hrvoje Horvat from Croatia’s National team.

Semifinal games were played between Ekaterinodar and Sokol, and Detono Zagreb and Team Nor. More successful were the teams that took 2nd and 3rd place on the Masters last weekend, Detono Zagreb and SC Ekaterinodar.

The best players were: Evgeniy Svestula (left wing- Ekaterinodar), Filip Bistrović (right wing-Sokol), Valentino Valentaković (defensive player- Detono Zagreb), Krešimir Malbašić (pivot-Detono Zagreb), Filip Svele ( specialist- Team Nor) te Anton Zabalotsky (goalkeeper- SC Ekaterinodar).
In the junior category there were 4 teams, all girls born in 1998 and younger. Young Croatian players played very nice and got the experience for further competition. Teams Lokomotiva 1 and 2 with Davor Rokavac as their coach won the first two places, and Libra Tehničar took the 3rd place. Leonarda Kapetanović (Lokomotiva 1) i Franka Gvardiol (Sokol Libra tehničar) particularly pointed out.
Games in the finals as the whole tournament showed a great promotion of beach handball. Great teams that play this sport several years thrilled the audience and we can say that this Zagreb Open was very well organized. We hope that next year there will be more foreign teams because Zagreb open had show his quality as one of the best tournament in Europe, said Nevena Krajcar, member of the organization crew.
