This weekend was held European beach handball tournament Masters finals on the courts of Stella Maris in Umag, Croatia. Croatia had her representative in the finals, Detono Zagreb, that lost in tense final against excellent team BMP Alcala from Spain, after the shoot-out and won the 2nd place.
Croatia had her representatives in both competition, teams Detono Zagreb and Sokol. Detono (M) won all the matches in groups against Balonmano playa Alcala (Spain) Albena beach Bulgaria (Switzerland), and last years 2nd team, Budaors Beach stars (Hungary). In the semifinals Detono was better then Polish team Inowroclaw with the result 2:0.
In the finals for the first time in the history of their club was BMP Alcala, that got a chance for rematch after losing in a group. In the last final match both teams won one set (18:17, 17:18), and after a long and tense shoot-out Spanish team won with the result 17:16. With the final result 2:1 BMP Alcala won the title of European champions for the first time. For Detono Zagreb played: Totić, Fantić, Jurić, Perić, Paradžik, Henigman, Valentaković, Sošić, Malbašić, Copot. One of the Detono’s best player Matej Sošić said: We are satisfied with the 2nd place, even do it would be nice to won the Masters 5th time in a row. We are aware that we can’t always be 1st and that our continuous good game is what is most important. In the name of the whole team I congratulation Alcala for winning this prestige title.
The rest Croatian teams, unfortunately didn’t get to the semifinals. Women from Detono Zagreb, last year champions, lost against Sokol in the competition for 5th place. Men from Sokol were 7th after losing all the games in a group. We hope that next time there will be little more luck for the Croatian teams. It is also worth mentioning that Netherlands team Paksoft Camelot won against OVB beach girls (Hungary) in the final game and for the first time in history of their club they got the title of European champions.
