Who would have thought, two years ago, when for the first time on the pitch of ŠRC Jarun a foreigner appeared, that this is the beginning of one long and beautiful story that continues today. In 2014, together with AKRP Detono Zagreb players, Polish girl Adriana Chowańska began her first beach handball season. Everything thanks to Erasmus exchange that enabled her to study in Zagreb for summer semester 2014. That time Adriana was a Croatian philology student at the Jagiellonian University (Cracow) and an active player of her university club. Right at the begging of her stay in Croatia she began to look for handball club where would continue trainings and in the same time improve her Croatian. It was the coincidence that led her to our club, which starts the preparations in April.
Adriana spent whole semester with us, took part as a player in several tournaments, and at the very end of her stay she even won her first medal with our second team (ChemoProfili) – bronze medal of Croatian Championship. As a gratitude for fantastic memories and with a strong will to continue this beautiful story, Adriana decided to organize open training and friendly tournament in Cracow during which everybody (with the help from European champions) would get to know beach handball, meet with experienced players and simply have fun outdoor. To achieve this she wrote Polish-Croatian cooperation project in which Academic Sports Association of the Jagiellonian University invited AKRP Detono Zagreb to be the main attraction of the event. This way in April 2015 18 players from Zagreb came to Cracow and within two days were promoting beach handball on the highest level.
Still, it wasn’t the end of this beautiful story. After success in Cracow, Adriana had even more motivation and played for us on several other tournaments. In December it showed up that the end of 2015 season, again, isn’t the end of this beautiful story – Adriana got another scholarship and, like two years ago, an incoming 2016 season will start with us on ŠRC Jarun pitches. We are proudly announcing that for the first time in club's history we have scholarship holder who, thanks to Erasmus+ Internship Program, will work with us for two months.
As we said at the beggining, the beautiful story continues today, and we continue Polish-Croatian cooperation. Adriana as our Polish representative will help us in organization of Jarun Cup 2016 (and other events that we're responsible for in 2016 season), and especially will support our Polish guests that, we hope, come to visit us this year. We hope that Adriana's experience gained from organization her own tournament and other sports events that she took part in as a volunteer, and her language skills, will contribute to the best possible organizational result. We invite everyone to Jarun Cup 2016! Become a part of our summer story!
